Dr. Graham’s role builds on current work in the Laboratory for Agnostic Biosignatures that uses generic expressions of life (complexity, disequilibria, energy transfer, etc) to build search criteria for biosignature detection. These methods use probabilistic interpretive frameworks to distinguish abiotic processes from biological activity and connect to Dr. Graham’s research on the connection between ecophysiology and biosignature production. For VPL, Dr. Graham focuses on exoplanet agnostic biosignatures and development of statistical framework to assess the probabilty of life/non-life for exoplanets.
